1. People need to drink 8 glasses of water per day.

Myth. Although drinking water is easy to obtain and relatively economical to maintain body fluids, a recommendation from the Institute of Medicine states that women’s drinking water needs per day is about 2 liters or 8 glasses, and men are about 3 liters or 12 glasses every day. However, these needs do not have to be fulfilled entirely from water.

2. Drinking water helps remove toxins from the body.

Fact. Although drinking water does not fully function to neutralize toxins, the kidneys need water to remove certain toxins from the body. If you do not drink enough water, your kidneys will not be able to meet their fluid needs so they cannot do their job properly.
